The 2022 Frontier only comes with a 3.8-liter direct injection, 24-valve, V-6 gasoline engine. It sends 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque to a 4x2 or 4x4 layout using a nine-speed automatic transmission.
A switch-operated, two-speed transfer case and an electronic locking rear differential are standard on the Pro-4X. Additionally, a tow-haul mode switch is available on all variants except the King Cab S.
All variants of the Frontier use an over-slung multi-leaf rear suspension with a solid axle and an independent double-wishbone front suspension with a stabilizer bar. The Crew Cab and the Pro-4X get rear stabilizer bars, but only the latter has Bilstein® off-road performance shock absorbers.
